CAS NO. 1308-06-1 Cobalt tetroxide Co3O4

CAS NO. 1308-06-1 Cobalt tetroxide Co3O4

Cobalt Tetroxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Co3O4,Black or grayish black powder. The apparent density is 0.5-1.5g/cm3, and the tap density is 2.0-3.0g/cm3. Cobalt Tetroxide can be slowly dissolved in hot sulfuric acid, but it is insoluble in water, nitric acid and hydrochloric acid at room temperature. When heated above 1200 ℃, it will decompose into cobaltous oxide. When it is strongly heated to 900℃ in a hydrogen flame, it is reduced to metal cobalt.

Basic information

Cobalt Tetroxide (Co3O4) is a black or grayish black solid powder widely used in industries such as battery materials, catalysts, magnetic materials, ceramic pigments, etc. Cobalt trioxide is often used as a positive electrode material for lithium-ion batteries, especially in lithium cobalt oxide batteries, due to its excellent electrochemical performance. In addition, it can also be used in gas sensors, supercapacitors, and as a precursor for other cobalt compounds.
